SeeNoEvil Applauds Dochovny

September 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Since David Duchovny checked himself into treatment for his pornography addiction last week, his name continues to one of google’s most popular searched terms.  In fact, it seems to us as SeeNoEvil, that his seeking treatment for sexual addiction is making more news than the much anticipated and successful release of The X Files movie this last July.

The question is why?  The answer, however, is not so simple.

Perhaps it is because many people do not realize that pornography is an addictive “substance” that can disrupt lives, tear apart marriages, and end careers.  SeeNoEvil has heard from more than one parent whose child came to them absolutely frightened because they came across pornography on the Internet.  However, much to these parents surprise, they have found that their child has searched for pornography a week or two after the incident.  Why?  Because viewing pornography releases a powerful chemical in the brain that causes a mix of excitement (and fear for prepubescent children).  It is hard to not come back for more after such a powerful chemical reaction within the body.

Perhaps it could be also be explained because of people on the other end of the spectrum.   People who know and realize that pornography is an addiction.  An “elephant in the room” that has affected their, or someone they love, spiritual, emotional, and physical well being.

Whatever the case may be, SeeNoEvil applauds Dochovny for taking the first step in getting back control of his life.  We wish him the best, and only hope that his courage inspires others to do the same.

Let’s us take back control of the Internet, reclaim the lives of those who have lost their spirit to Internet addiction, and therefore make the world more human and more fraternal.

Tips On How To Fight Pornography Temptation

August 29, 2008 · 2 Comments

Tips on How to Fight Pornography Temptation

  • Workout – If you are tempted, resort to something else, actually physically working out is a good thing because it directs your mind and your energy elsewhere
  • Call a friend – Having a trusted friend or accountability partner you can talk to in times of temptation is invaluable.  If you don’t have a friend or accountability partner, you might want to see if you can find one, contact your local church or men’s group.
  • Invest in anti-pornography software.  It will help to keep your computer clean.
  • Avoid the people and places that seem to lead to watching pornography.
  • Pray – Nothing beats the power of prayer!  Some men have won the battle by reading scripture, or even just putting on some Christian music.

Warning Signs

June 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Waring signs that a person may be using the Internet for destructive behaviors.

*As taken from Behind Closed Doors, Christians, Pornography, and the Temptations of Cyberspaceby Robert J. Baird, M.DIV, MSW, PH.D and Ronald L. Vanderbeck, PSY.D.”

A change in sleep habits.  In a desire to not get caught in the act, those using their computers to access pornography will do so only when they have privacy.  In the context of marriage or family, such time can be limited.  As a result, those whose curiosity becomes habit-forming will deliberately alter their sleep habits.  Some will complain of insomnia.  Other will claim a need “to get some work done on the computer” and come to bed or rise earlier in the morning.

Moodiness and irritability.  Although pornography can be physically stimulating, arousing, and pleasurable, most Christians who’ve fallen to the temptation of pornography are well aware that their behavior is unacceptable.  This inner conflict often manifest itself in moodiness and irritability.  When struggling with the burden of sexual temptation, those who are typically light hearted and jovial can appear depressed and often develop a rather short-fused temper.

Demand for privacy.  As curiosity becomes a habit, some will move the computer to a more private location, perhaps with a lock on the door.  They may rearrange the furniture so the computer screen is not visible by others in the room.  Most often they will become easily irritated when interrupted while on the computer.

Disregarding other responsibilities.  Some people can become so absorbed in their online activities that they no longer attend to household chores or other family activities.  Time once spent cleaning the kitchen or doing yard work is exchanged for time spent surfing pron sites.  Interest in hobbies and other recreational pursuits seems to diminish while time on the computer escalates.  Time once invested in attending a child’s school or sports activities dissipates, while online pursuits become the focus of considerable attention.

Change in sexual appetite.  The sexual stimulation experienced in “virtual reality” causes changes in real-life sexual relationships.  For some it manifests itself in an increased libido, or sex drive.  For others, it’s a change in regard to types of sexual activity desired.  Still others withdraw and seem less interested in sexual contact.  Having released sexual energy while online, little is left for “real” sex with their marriage partner.
