It’s that time of year, pencils are sharp, lunches are packed, and the first ball has rang, school is in session.
Back to school, also typically means more time spent on the computer. SeeNoEvil has listed a few tools to help your children stay safe online this back to school year.
1. Ask your child’s teacher how much time your student should be spending online for homework purposes, and ask for specific websites they should visit for homework. That way you know how much time your child is actually doing homework online and you can check out the websites he or she will be visiting.
2. Talk to the school principal or technology director regarding what rules and software the school has in place to protect the children online. Also, are there any Internet Safety lessons that will be taught throughout the year?
3. Finally, get the e-mail of your child’s teacher. Chances are, e-mail is the preferred form of communication for your child’s teacher. It is a quick and easy way to stay in contact regarding all subjects, and you can also touch base on new ways technology is used in the classroom.

Internet Safety Rules from the SeeNoEvil Website
Although very harmful, pornography is not the only threat your child faces on the Internet. Studies have shown that one in 33 children and young adults have been sexually solicited online in the past year. Educating your child on the dangers of sexual predators is another way to ensure his or her safety.
We have provided this list of Int
ernet guidelines to assist your child in staying safe on the Internet. We suggest printing these rules and posting them near his or her computer.

SeeNoEvil was recently made aware that many in our SeeNoEvil community are using our product to monitor their teens’ Second Life activity.
Second Life,a popular virtual community among teenagers, allows teens to create a “second life” through a virtual community where they can own land and operate a business. Second Life Teen is for teenagers (age 13-17)and prohibits strong language, graphic violence, and nudity. The original Second Life is for those 18 and older (it took SeeNoEvil no less than 5 minutes on the site to realize it was intended for adults only).
Many parents recognize the potential dangers when allowing their teens to chat and “live” on a “virtual community” and have activated SeeNoEvil’s parental controls to monitor their teen’s Second Life Account to monitor who they are communicating with within the virtual community. Others have used SeeNoEvil to prohibit the use of Second Life Teen on their computer.
SeeNoEvil is proud to offer you the tools to take control of the Internet and safeguard your teen based on the desecions you feel are best. With SeeNoEvil, you gain control over the Internet, protecting your children from the dangers on the World Wide Web.
