Since David Duchovny checked himself into treatment for his pornography addiction last week, his name continues to one of google’s most popular searched terms. In fact, it seems to us as SeeNoEvil, that his seeking treatment for sexual addiction is making more news than the much anticipated and successful release of The X Files movie this last July.
The question is why? The answer, however, is not so simple.
Perhaps it is because many people do not realize that pornography is an addictive “substance” that can disrupt lives, tear apart marriages, and end careers. SeeNoEvil has heard from more than one parent whose child came to them absolutely frightened because they came across pornography on the Internet. However, much to these parents surprise, they have found that their child has searched for pornography a week or two after the incident. Why? Because viewing pornography releases a powerful chemical in the brain that causes a mix of excitement (and fear for prepubescent children). It is hard to not come back for more after such a powerful chemical reaction within the body.
Perhaps it could be also be explained because of people on the other end of the spectrum. People who know and realize that pornography is an addiction. An “elephant in the room” that has affected their, or someone they love, spiritual, emotional, and physical well being.
Whatever the case may be, SeeNoEvil applauds Dochovny for taking the first step in getting back control of his life. We wish him the best, and only hope that his courage inspires others to do the same.
Let’s us take back control of the Internet, reclaim the lives of those who have lost their spirit to Internet addiction, and therefore make the world more human and more fraternal.
